A Balanced Lifestyle Starts from Within

A Balanced Lifestyle Starts from Within

In our modern-day world, stress is simply a given. Our to-do lists never seem to get fully done, and it’s hard to disconnect from it all when we’re constantly surrounded by a million different screens, reminded of what we didn’t finish, and what we’ve yet to start. There are a number of simple ways to combat the things that cause us stress that we can start doing right now to improve our mood and bring us back to balance.

Many scoff at these adjustments to a daily routine, because they aren’t convinced that they will result in any actual improvement. But, how will you know unless you try? Consistency is the key to positive change.

When you begin to notice a dip in energy or mood, ask yourself these three quick questions while you scan your body and try to notice where you’re feeling out of balance:

  1. Did you eat today? No judgment! When we’re running out the door or starting our next online meeting, sometimes there’s just no way to carve out enough time to have a proper meal. But, even when we’re moving fast, it’s important to keep food around that’s rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. Foods like nuts, eggs, yogurt (dairy or non-dairy), salmon/tuna, avocado, berries, leafy greens, and granola bars may not be your go-to but can do wonders to support your energy and mood throughout the day. When you start to feel low, turn to a snack that will bring you up, not weigh you down. Make a nutritional choice that benefits your body and your mind, and try to notice any differences you might feel afterward, however subtle.

  2. Have you done anything to get your heart rate up? We’re not suggesting that you run a marathon, we promise. A simple walk (even just to the car or the mailbox), calling a friend while moving about your space, taking a quick drive to change your surroundings, or finding a shady tree to sit down at to reflect and watch your thoughts for just 5 minutes can change your entire day. It sounds like it’s too good to be true, but many of us are so used to being on auto-pilot that we’re not even aware of how we’re actually feeling. These small moments really help bring the body back to awareness, provide clarity to the stress, and can help you better understand your mood and what’s affecting it.

  3. Can you come up with 3 things you’re grateful for right now? It could be for the cup of coffee you’ve been sipping on, that your car started this morning, or for the love you were surrounded by at the baby shower over the weekend. No matter how small or insignificant it may seem, write it down! Journal, doodle, and get it all out. You’ll quickly realize how much you have to be happy for, regardless of whatever situation you may be in. It doesn’t matter if you can only get one thing down, the more you practice this, the longer the list will get. Getting out of your head and focusing on even the smallest positives can greatly improve your mood and give you a reality check (in a good way).

Ditch Your Stress & Change Your Tune with Ayurveda

Once you begin to incorporate these tiny changes into your routine (it’s okay if you forget, but do your best to try to make them a daily habit), you should begin to notice an improvement in your stress and mood. You can also begin to combine adaptogenic herbs used in the healing science of Ayurveda with the helpful adjustments outlined above and begin to adopt a new routine, which will turn into a new lifestyle.

Introduce Adaptogenic Herbs to Your Daily Routine

Adaptogenic herbs have been used for centuries to help the body get back to balance and deal with physical and emotional stress. They help you “adapt” to the world around you and promote a cognizant connection between mind and body. There are many different types of adaptogens and each of them have their own unique properties. They can be used singly or in combination with other herbs to help support your body in areas that have fallen out of balance.

The herbs used in Himalaya’s Herbal product line are the same herbs that have been used in one of the world's oldest traditional systems of wellness, Ayurveda. They work to help the body:

  • Overcome stress
  • Improve concentration
  • Promote healthy cortisol levels
  • Support stress relief
  • Improve energy
  • Improve adrenal function
  • Support the function of the body’s systems, such as the nervous system and gastrointestinal system

Environmental factors, stimulants, lack of sleep, negative events, and day-to-day stressors like traffic or picking up the kids from school all contribute to imbalance in the body.
